This is a technical, laboratory-based programme. Dental Technologists do not usually work directly on patients’ mouths; instead, they design and manufacture dental appliances like crowns, bridges, and dentures.
This is usually a 3-year Diploma programme. While the Dentist takes the “mold” of the patient’s teeth, the Dental Technologist is the person in the lab actually building the replacement teeth. In Zambia, they are in high demand in both the Ministry of Health and private dental labs.
Standard Entry Requirements
Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 Credits or better.
- Required: English, Mathematics, Biology, and Science/Physics.
Core Modules
Dental Biomaterials, Prosthetic Technics, Orthodontic Technics, Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD/CAM) in Dentistry.
Regulatory Body: Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).
