Public University Students Get a Boost: Meal, Accommodation Allowances Increased!
The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has announced an increase in university meal and accommodation allowances. This is aimed at improving student welfare and support under the loans scheme.
“We’re committed to ensuring students have adequate support for their nutritional needs and overall well-being.” stated Chiselwa Kawanda, HELSB Senior Cooperate Communication Officer.
Students can now enjoy a K2.50 increase in their daily meal allowance, rising from K22.50 to K25.00. This adjustment acknowledges the rising cost of living. And aims to ensure students have access to nutritious meals throughout their studies.
HELSB is implementing a uniform accommodation fee across all universities. This means students will pay a consistent fee based on their specific university’s charges. Eliminating confusion and simplifying the cost structure.
Recognizing the financial burden some students face, HELSB has approved covering registration fees on a needs basis. This additional support ensures financial constraints don’t hinder a student’s ability to pursue their education.
These changes reflect HELSB’s dedication to student welfare and their commitment to creating a more accessible and supportive learning environment in public universities.
